The conference conclusions will include recommendations for theoretical development and further research on the intersection of shared parenting and family violence on the one hand, and recommendations for law reform, socio-legal policy and legal and mental health practice on the other.

Edward Kruk, PhD

Dr. Edward Kruk is Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of British Columbia, President of the International Council on Shared Parenting, and Co-chair of the Scientific Committee of the Fifth International Conference on Shared Parenting. His research and teaching are focused on child and family policy and practice, and he has published extensively in the areas of shared parenting, family mediation, parental alienation and family violence. His fifth book, The Equal Parent Presumption, is the first to consider equal parenting as a new foundation for family law, summarizing current research and proposing a framework for the establishment of a rebuttable legal presumption of equal parenting responsibility.

Jennifer Harman, PhD

Jennifer J. Harman, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Colorado State University. Her primary focus of research is in the area of human aggression within family systems, including all forms of family violence such as parental alienation and psychological abuse. She obtained her PhD in social psychology from the University of Connecticut in 2005, and has also served on a dual appointment with the Colorado School of Public Health, University of Denver, as an Associate Adjunct Professor. She has published nearly a dozen peer-reviewed academic journal papers on parental alienation over the last five years, as well as a book, several book chapters, and an encyclopedia entry on the topic. In addition to her academic appointment, Dr. Harman serves on the Board of Directors for the Parental Alienation Study Group and Simply Parent, is the Director of a new virtual research institute for the study of parental alienation (www.PA-VI.org), and regularly consults as an expert witness on family and criminal law cases in which parental alienation has been raised as a concern.
